McFarland Lutheran Church

In the night in which he was betrayed,
our Lord Jesus took bread, and gave thanks;
broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying:
Take and eat; this is my body, given for you.
Do this for the remembrance of me.

Again, after supper, he took the cup, gave thanks,
and gave it for all to drink, saying:
This cup is the new covenant in my blood,
shed for you and for all people for the forgiveness of sin.
Do this for the remembrance of me.

In Holy Baptism God chooses and blesses us. Holy Baptism is our entry into new life in Christ and membership in Christ’s church. Holy Communion is the meal that God feeds us with to strengthen and sustain our life in Christ.

The sacrament of Holy Communion is a means of grace from God to God’s people through which the crucified and risen Christ is present and active to forgive, to save, to unite, to give life, to comfort, and to strengthen for the work to which God calls God’s people in the world.

Here at McFarland Lutheran church we practice open communion. You do not have to be a member of our congregation to receive Holy Communion. If you believe in Jesus Christ and desire to receive His body and blood come and find your place at His table. Jesus invites and commands us to receive his body and blood. Holy Communion is a central part of every worship service held at McFarland Lutheran Church. We also provide Holy Communion to the sick, homebound, and imprisoned through communion distributors and our pastors.

There is no command from our Lord regarding the age at which people begin receiving Holy Communion. Admission to Holy Communion is by invitation of the Lord, presented through the Church to those who are baptized.

Adults, who desire to receive Holy Communion for the first time would normally receive preparation through the new member class.

For children, there are two different ways to receive First Communion preparation. For those in 5th grade, we offer once a year ( the first Saturday after Easter) a family friendly time of preparation. For those who cannot attend the scheduled preparation, and for those younger children who desire to receive Holy Communion, and their parents believe they are ready, we offer a home study preparation.

If you desire First Communion preparation for yourself or your children please call the church office at 608-838-3184 send us an e-mail at office@mcfarlandlutheran.org Letting us know of your interest.
