Uganda

Hope 4 Kids

MLC has supported Ugandan Missions through Hope-4-Kids International since 2010.  In 2013 we raised money for one fresh water well.  With the exception of 2020, every year since 2018 we have raised funds to drill 2 fresh water wells. Our next fund raiser for wells, a Walk-4-Water event, will be held in September of 2024.

As of April 2024, 18 individuals form our congregation have been on missions trips to Uganda.  Actions while there included meeting local leaders of charitable organizations; attending formal well dedications, feeding orphans and showing them love, care and fun; holding “Dress-a-Girl” events which also includes T’s for boys, holding medical outreaches in villages, elevating the standing of widows in their communities with a foot washing, and visiting hospitals with gifts of prayer and necessities and worshipping with our Ugandan brothers and sisters. In other words, we follow the directive in Matthew to serve the widows and orphans, feed the hungry, clothe the poor and check on the sick.

In our sponsored village of Sesera we have helped build a church, built a latrine, drilled a fresh water well, started a moringa project to aid in raising nutrition levels and a class is being held to teach adults remedial literacy skills.

There is a also and opportunity to sponsor children, widows or teachers of adults through H4KI and H4WI programs.  Sponsored children, widows and teachers are typically in contact via email.  There are opportunities to meet the sponsored individuals during mission trips.

Puerto Rico

Iglesia Evangelical Luterana Reconciliation

MLC has led 7 Puerto Rico Mission Trips and sent over 100 members, both youth and adults, to serve and worship with our brothers and sisters in
Puerto Rico. This mission trip typically takes place over spring break on an
every-other-year schedule.

This mission trip is a combination of service work, fundraising for the mission work and our sister church, worship and fellowship with our sister congregation, and sightseeing on the island.

Our service work and projects have included: hurricane clean-up, rebuilding and repair of homes, church projects and maintenance, camp projects and maintenance, and work with their local food pantry.

The Caribbean Synod is the partner of the ELCA South-Central Synod of WI. Iglesia Evangelica Luterana Reconciliacion in Levitown, PR is a sister congregation with MLC. We stay at Camp Eduardo Roig; also the site of the Caribbean Synod Office.
